Basic rules for operating drones in the Czech Republic
- The maximum altitude for drone flight is 120 meters above ground. Always check it before flying in the DronView app.
- Flying drones over people who have not given their explicit consent is not allowed.
- The drone pilot must maintain visual contact with the drone at all times.
- The drone pilot must be at least 16 years old or be supervised by a responsible person during the flight.
- The drone operator must be registered in one of the EU member states.
- The pilot is obligated to select a suitable location for drone operation and avoid restricted areas.
The obligation to register as a drone operator
- All operators whose drones are equipped with a camera and are not certified as toys are required to register. Registration is valid within the territory of all EU member states, and in the Czech Republic, it is done through the Operator Portal managed by the Civil Aviation Authority.
- Only operators of drones weighing less than 250 g without a camera or toys are exempt from the obligation to register. Pilots will then dispense with the test for all drones up to 250 g.
Flying over Congested areas and people
Flying drones over areas used for residential, commercial, and recreational purposes is subject to rules derived from the weight of the drone. The same applies to flying over people who have not given informed consent.
